Silver Sunday

Silver Sunday is back, bigger and better than before!

This year’s Silver Sunday, from 2 October, boasts more than 40 local events for people aged 50 plus, most of which are free.

Silver Sunday was set up 10 years ago to tackle loneliness. In recent years it has become a national campaign to celebrate the contribution of the over 50s while promoting social activity.

Promoted locally by Sevenoaks District Council, and running from October to December, residents can sign up to a variety of health and exercise sessions, coffee mornings, lunch clubs, talks and more!

This year there are free Tai Chi and Qigong taster sessions, a chance to try walking football and walking rugby, bowls taster sessions and a free day pass to White Oak Leisure Centre in Swanley.

AGE UK’s ‘Pop Up Sue’ is running her famous gentle exercises classes and ‘Every Step Counts’ will give everyone the chance to meet new people on a social walk.

The Council’s Cabinet Member for People and Places, Cllr Lesley Dyball, says:

“Silver Sunday is a really positive way of supporting the over 50s to try new things and meet new people. This year’s Silver Sunday is bigger and better than previous years with lots of events running throughout the District. There’s something for everyone.”

Cllr Dyball adds:

“If you have an elderly relative or friend who would enjoy more social interaction, encourage them to come along to a Silver Sunday event.”
