VE Day 75 in 2020

A variety of activities were held to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day, on 8th May 2020, which took place during the Covid-19 lockdown.

These included a live Church service, a two minute silence at 11 when we remembered George William Booker, a VE Day 75 painted rocks competition, and a series of posts on Facebook describing how VE Day was celebrated in Fawkham in 1945 and details of life on Fawkham during the Second World War.

Many households enjoyed picnics on their driveways and in their front gardens, socialising with neighbours from a safe distance.

A Kentish filbert tree was planted on behalf of the village in the churchyard as a lasting tribute, and a plaque was added to the Horse Chestnut tree that was planted by the village in 1995 to mark to 50th anniversary of VE Day.
